What to Expect

We live in a world of constant temptation, that's nothing new. But how do we overcome this? When it comes to being healthy, the odds are stacked up against us. On my 8 minute drive home from work I pass 12 fast food joints. TWELVE. When my stomach is grumbling at lunch time and I've had one of those mornings it takes everything in my power not to stop for a beefy five layer burrito and a large Coke. Or when I wake up on the wrong side of the bed and try to decide if I should skip doing my hair today so I have time to wait in line at the Starbucks drive-thru. It's a relentless battle.

Being healthy is a daily choice. Some days it's a lot easier than others but I promise you, it is possible and it is liberating. This is a place I am going to share with you affordable, tangible ways to make healthy changes in your life. And by healthy, we aren't just talking food. We're talking healthy body and healthy mind, because overall physical and mental well being are our key to living happy lives. Here are some important factors that this blog will touch on:

1. AFFORDABILITY. Being healthy does not mean you have to shop exclusively at Whole Foods and spend $100 weekly for one person. It is possible to eat well, and live well on ANY budget, I am a firm believer in that.

2. RELATEABILITY. I just got married, I work full-time, I am studying to become a midwife, I am actively involved in my church and I have two dogs who demand more time than I could've ever imagined when I got them.

Not everyone has time to prep cute little mason jar smoothies for breakfast and spend 30 minutes packing a healthy lunch to take to work/school every day. It's just not possible for a lot of us. I will show you how to live a healthy lifestyle without demanding you somehow create more time in a day.

3. MMM, TASTEY. Hellllo, are people really still saying that eating/being healthy is boring? I will show you how to make meals that you truly enjoy, and give you tools to be able to customize recipes to your individual liking. Good-for-you-food can also be incredibly satisfying.

4. NO JUDGEMENT. News flash, I FAIL. And guess what? You will to. Understanding that is incredibly important to your success. You are your own support system sometimes. What would you say to a friend who vents to you about how upset they are for breaking their good streak of not eating out? Would you tell them what you tell yourself when you fail? I'm guessing no, you'd tell them that no one is perfect and they are doing a great job, to get back on the horse and not let that moment bring them down. Sometimes, you have to be your own cheerleader.

You CAN make positive lifestyle changes that you can afford, have time for, and will truly enjoy. At least, I hope so. That is my purpose here, to guide and encourage you on a journey toward being a healthier, happier person.
